Commercial Roofing Types & Styles

Built up Roof Systems   Griffith Roofing Company, Inc., are specialists in built-up roofing systems (BUR) using tar and gravel. We use modified heated bitumen membranes to achieve the desired result.   We also occasionally use an unheated polymer based membrane system depending on the roofing project. Moreover, while Griffith Roofing Company, Inc. has devoted an ample amount of roofing resources to R&D to improve our BUR roofing systems we currently recommend asphalt as our #1 roofing adhesive because its waterproof bonding ability is currently unrivaled on the roofing market.
EPDM Roof Systems Griffith Roofing Company, Inc. is the uncontested roofing leader in ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) roofing systems. We strongly believe that EPDM roofing systems offer several benefits over its roofing counterparts.   For instance, Griffith Roofing Company, Inc. believes that EPDM roofing is ideal for low slope roofing, whether it be a new roof or a re-roofing application. Moreover, we are impressed by the versatility, durability, design, and ease of use of EPDM roofing materials. In addition, we use a synthetic rubber compound for our EPDM roofing systems due to its demonstrated resistance against climatic heat, cold, and wind conditions.
Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems   Griffith Roofing Company, Inc., is the roofing leader of modified bitumen roofing systems (MBRs). While we use asphalting roofing materials in our MBR applications, we amalgamate them with a series of solvents and modifiers to optimize them.   We use 5 different components that can be combined in several ways to form MBRs. For instance, Griffith Roofing Company, Inc. can use initial insulation to form a strong foundation or substrate for the roof. We can then place a lower ply sheet under a bitumen based ply that is modified. In addition, we can use a modified bitumen membrane that consists of either polyester or fiberglass matting for our roofing applications.
White Membrane Roof Systems     Griffith Roofing Company, Inc., provides several roofing options to meet your commercial or industrial roofing needs. For instance, we provide white membrane roofing (WMR) services to any roofing client who requests it. In fact, we can apply WMR systems to any low sloped, flat, industrial, or commercial roofing application. Moreover, Griffith Roofing Company, Inc. applies WMR roofing materials as a single-ply roofing fixture.   Interestingly, due to the high solar reflectivity that WMR systems provide, we believe that they can generate a large amount of savings in the long term. In effect, the WMR system that Griffith Roofing Company, Inc. uses involves proprietary elevated heat emitting technology that discharges large amounts of absorbed solar energy.
Metal Roof Systems    Griffith Roofing Co. Inc., offers many types of metal roof systems. We also have a very comprehensive metal fabrication shop and are capable of fabricating most all custom sheet metal flashings, chimney caps, custom panels, and any other fabrication request you may have for us.  In the United States, metal comprises 10% of the overall residential re-roofing market. Its advantages are 1. It is very durable in all weather conditions 2. Systems are made from a high percentage of recycled material and are 100% recyclable. Metal roofing can be used for residential and commercial buildings. There are many types of material types available today including Corrugated galvanized steel. This describes the original product that was wrought iron–steel sheet coated with zinc and then roll formed into corrugated sheets. This product is still used today in most areas. The newer push of modern architecture and "green" products has brought these products back to the foreground. Metal tile sheets. These are usually painted or stone-coated steel. Stainless steel. Available for harsh conditions and/or as a distinctive design element. Usually roll-formed into standing seam profiles; however, shingles are available. Copper roofs offer corrosion resistance, durability, long life, low maintenance, radio frequency shielding, lightning protection, and sustainability benefits. Copper roofs are often one of the most architecturally distinguishable features of prominent buildings, including churches, government buildings, and universities. Aluminum. One of the longest-lasting metals, but somewhat expensive compared to steel products. Aluminum roofs are very lightweight, corrosion-resistant, have high natural reflectivity and even higher natural emissivity, increasing a building's energy efficiency. Aluminum products with Kynar paints easily last over 50 years. The newest innovation is anodizing of the aluminum coil stock for use in architectural details and standing seam panels.
Green Roof Systems      Griffith Roofing Company, Inc., is a pioneer when it comes to environmentally sound roofing solutions. For our environmentally conscious roofing clients, we generally implement green roofing systems. To do so, Griffith Roofing Company, Inc. will superimpose a green roof over an existing roof because a green roofing system is essentially an extension of an existing roof. Moreover, we will ensure that the green roof is both root repellent and waterproof.   We will also install an ample drainage apparatus, in addition to filtration cloth, and a large variety of foliage to infuse your roof with an organic roofing aesthetic.
Specialized Coatings   Griffith Roofing Co., Inc. is a pioneer in the latest and most innovative coatings available on the market today and we pride ourselves in our knowledge and abilities to identify and offer solutions to the most complicated moisture control, water proofing & corrosion problems, thus adverting problems that may be incurred in all industry, commercial, and residential situations. Our silicone liquid roofing membrane systems are unique to the industry providing a solvent-free, single- component waterproof elastomeric moisture-curing silicone coating. These pure silicone coatings are ideal for use as a re-roofing or maintenance coating system over pre-existing elastomeric roof coatings, metal roofs, built-up roofing, mineral cap sheet, and weathered single ply membranes (EPDM, Hypalon®, and TPO/CPA) on a roofing substrate where the membrane surface is in sound condition, but requires a renewal of the membrane surface due to the normal effect of aging and use. Warranties offered for our silicone products include a 50 yr standard warranty covering material only or you may choose to impliment one of our all inclusive warranties covering both labor and materials for periods of 10, 15, or 20 years. Other services include surface sealants that  are unique in that the hydrophilic properties of our products seal cracks, capillaries, honey-combs, and joints in concrete in order to prolong the useful life of the concrete through quality repair, restoration, waterproofing, and protection. Our products are non-toxic and environmentally safe. We provide chemicals for exterior surfaces such as stone, concrete, and wood that  protects your surface from the damage caused by water, acids, salts, oil, and a variety of organic stains. Seals concrete against water, vapor, future stains, and other harmful agents. Strengthens concrete which reduces cracking, spalling, pitting, crumbling resulting from efflorescence, freeze/thaw, mold and mildew, concrete dusting, and spalling. Please contact us with any and all problems that you may have  regarding thermal, moisture, or corrosive tendencies.
BUR Systems For the last 88 yrs Griffith Roofing has been a leader in the market with regards to the Built up Roofing system. Built up roof membranes, referred to by the acronym BUR, have been in use in the U.S. for more than 100 years. These roof systems are commonly referred to as "tar and gravel" roofs. BUR systems generally are composed of alternating layers of bitumen and reinforcing fabrics that create a finished membrane. The number of plies in a cross section is the number of plies on a roof: The term "four plies" denotes a four ply roof membrane construction. Sometimes, a base sheet, used as the bottommost ply, is mechanically fastened. Built up roofs generally are considered to be fully adhered if applied directly to roof decks or insulation.
Modified Bitumen Systems Over the past few years with the increasing price of oil related products, the Modified roof system has become more cost effective over the standard built up roof systems due to the lesser amount of asphalt used in the construction of the modified system. We offer several Modified Bitumen roofing systems including Hot applied, Cold applied, heat weldable and self adhered systems. Modified roof systems offer several benefits including durability, extreme weather resistant, ease of repair and preventative maintenance, flexability, (good elongation), & factory rolls are easier to install and ensure quality control.
Single Ply Roof Systems Griffith Roofing Company, Inc., provides several single ply options for the end user to choose from depending on the installation that fits the particular scenario. Those choices include TPO, Thermoplastic Polyolefin), EPDM, (Ethylene propylene diene terpolymer), & PVC, (Polyvinyl chloride). TPO is probably the most widely used roofing product in the market today for two very good reasons: (1) it’s relatively inexpensive and (2) because it’s white, it transfers less heat into you building. TPO membranes are single-ply roof membranes constructed from ethylene propylene rubber. They are designed to combine the durability of EPDM rubber with the proven performance of hot-air weldable seams. They have been tested as having excellent resistance to ozone, are algae-resistant, environmentally friendly and safe to install. The material's manufacturers are so confident in properly welded seams that the material is sometimes advertised as a monolithic (seamless) roof. Seam strengths are reportedly 3 to 4 times those of EPDM's adhesive and tape seams.   EPDM is a synthetic rubber based material & its main identifying characteristic is that it is black in color, which means that it also has a tremendous ability to transfer heat though itself and into your building. Because of this many manufactures  have begun selling ‘white-on-black’ EPDM (in some cases for the second time), obviously trying to take a cue from the market place. When it comes to PVC, most people probably first think of those hard irrigation or drainage pipes. While it is true that PVC is a relatively hard substance, the PVC that is used for roofing material has the benefit of plasticizers, which are added to make the membrane more pliable. Most PVC membranes are mechanically- attached, though fully-adhered or even ballasted PVC roofing systems are still occasionally found. What is almost universal, though, is that the PVC membranes are heat-welded at the seams. This creates a monolithic structure that is very durable and able to withstand the constant expansion and contraction of the building structure throughout the day, throughout its life. A properly heat-welded seam is a much better seam than a glued or taped seam. And the reason why PVC membranes are most often heat-welded at the seams is because of the strength, durability, and stability of the material.
